1 Kings 1:14

“Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the king, I also will come in after thee, and confirm thy words.”

In this verse, we find a conversation taking place between Bathsheba and Nathan the prophet. To fully understand the context, we should explore the surrounding verses. In 1 Kings 1, we witness a significant transition in Israel’s monarchy. David, the long-reigning king, is nearing the end of his life, and there is uncertainty about who will succeed him. Adonijah, one of David’s sons, attempts to assert his claim to the throne before Solomon, the son chosen by God to be the next king.

Context: Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother, is concerned about Adonijah’s intentions and goes to King David to seek his guidance and intervention. Now, let’s analyze the verse itself: “Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the king, I also will come in after thee, and confirm thy words.” This verse presents the words of Nathan the prophet to Bathsheba. Nathan assures her that while she is still conversing with King David, he will follow her into the presence of the king and affirm the content of their discussion. Nathan promises to support Bathsheba’s plea and validate her words.

This verse highlights the significance of confirmation and agreement. Bathsheba desires to ensure that her concerns are communicated accurately to King David, and Nathan pledges to confirm her words to strengthen her case. The role of Nathan in this situation is essential, as he serves as a trusted prophet and adviser to the king. His support lends credibility to Bathsheba’s plea and helps solidify Solomon’s position as the rightful heir. From a broader perspective, this verse can remind us of the importance of seeking counsel and support from trusted individuals in times of uncertainty or when facing challenging circumstances. Bathsheba seeks the assistance of Nathan, a wise and godly man, to ensure her voice is heard and her concerns are taken seriously. Likewise, we can benefit from seeking the wisdom and guidance of trustworthy individuals when we are in need.

Furthermore, this verse highlights the significance of confirming and validating our words. Nathan pledges to affirm Bathsheba’s message, emphasizing the importance of integrity and truthfulness. As believers, we are called to be people of integrity, ensuring that our words align with God’s truth and seeking confirmation from trusted sources when necessary.

Conclusion:1 Kings 1:14 illustrates Bathsheba’s conversation with Nathan, where he promises to confirm and support her words as she discusses her concerns with King David. This verse teaches us about the value of seeking counsel, the significance of confirmation, and the importance of integrity in our speech.
