“Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer, which thy servant prayeth before thee today”

The posture of humility: Solomon refers to himself as a servant of the Lord. This demonstrates a posture of humility and acknowledges God’s authority. It reminds us that when we approach God in prayer, we should do so with humility, recognizing our dependence on Him.

The importance of prayer: Solomon recognizes the significance of prayer and its power. He asks God to pay attention to his prayer and supplication. This highlights the importance of seeking God in prayer, knowing that He hears and responds to the cries of His people.

God’s willingness to hear: Solomon expresses confidence in God’s willingness to listen and respond to his prayer. He believes that God will hearken to the cry and the prayer presented before Him. This verse assures us that God is attentive and interested in our prayers. He invites us to bring our needs and concerns before Him, knowing that He will hear and respond according to His wisdom and purposes.

The personal nature of prayer: Solomon addresses God as “O LORD my God,” emphasizing the personal relationship he has with the Lord. This serves as a reminder that prayer is not merely a formal religious exercise but an intimate conversation with a loving and personal God. It encourages us to cultivate a deep and personal relationship with God through prayer.

The timing of prayer: Solomon mentions that the prayer is offered “today.” This indicates the immediacy and urgency of Solomon’s request. It reminds us that we should not delay in bringing our concerns and needs before God. We can approach Him at any time, in any circumstance, knowing that He is always available and attentive to our prayers.
