1 Kings Chapter 16

Summery

Chapter 16 of the First Book of Kings in the King James Version of the Bible provides an account of the various kings who reigned over Israel during a time of political instability. The chapter begins by introducing the reign of Baasha, who ruled for 24 years. However, he is condemned by God for following in the sinful footsteps of Jeroboam.

Following Baasha's death, his son Elah ascends the throne, but his reign is short-lived. Elah is assassinated by one of his commanders, Zimri, who takes over as king. Zimri, in turn, faces a swift rebellion led by Omri, the commander of Israel's army. This leads to a civil war in the kingdom, resulting in Zimri's suicide.

Omri eventually becomes the king of Israel and reigns for a total of 12 years. However, his reign is also marked by evil as he continues the sinful practices of his predecessors. Despite this, the chapter mentions that Omri's reign is recorded in the annals of Israel's kings.
