Listen to this article

“And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.”

Context:First Samuel 18 captures the events that followed David’s victory over Goliath and his rise in popularity among the people of Israel. Saul, the reigning king, becomes increasingly jealous and fearful of David due to his success and the people’s admiration for him.

David’s Wise Behavior:The verse begins by highlighting David’s wise conduct in all his ways. Despite his rising prominence, David remained humble and exhibited wisdom in his actions. He demonstrated sound judgment, discernment, and discretion in his dealings with others. This wise behavior contributed to his overall success and the favour he found in the eyes of the people.

God’s Presence:The latter part of the verse states that the Lord was with David. This phrase underscores the divine favour and guidance David received. It indicates that David’s wise behavior and success were not solely the result of his own efforts but were also a manifestation of God’s presence and blessing upon him. God’s presence provided David with strength, protection, and wisdom, enabling him to navigate the challenges and opposition he faced.

Application for Today:

  • Wisdom in Conduct:David’s wise behavior serves as a valuable example for us. As we navigate our lives, it is crucial to seek wisdom in all our ways. This involves making decisions in accordance with God’s principles, being discerning in our relationships, and seeking counsel from godly sources.
  • God’s Presence:Just as God was with David, He desires to be with us today. Through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, we can experience the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. God’s presence empowers and guides us, granting us the wisdom and strength we need to navigate life’s challenges.
  • Trusting in God:David’s story reminds us to trust in God’s provision and guidance. Even in the face of opposition and adversity, we can rely on His presence to lead us on the right path. As we lean on God and seek His wisdom, He will direct our steps and bring about His purposes in our lives.

In summary, 1 Samuel 18:14 highlights David’s wise behavior and the presence of the Lord with him. It serves as a reminder for us to seek wisdom, trust in God’s presence, and rely on Him for guidance in our own lives.
