1 Samuel 6:16

“And when the five lords of the Philistines had seen it, they returned to Ekron the same day.”

The Philistines then set the cart with the Ark and the offerings on a course toward the Israelite territory.: In verse 12, we read that the cows pulling the cart instinctively headed straight for Beth Shemesh, an Israelite city. When the people of Beth Shemesh saw the Ark coming, they rejoiced and offered burnt offerings to the Lord.

Returning to verse 16, it states, “And when the five lords of the Philistines had seen it, they returned to Ekron the same day.” The “five lords of the Philistines” refers to the rulers or governors of the five major Philistine cities: Ashdod, Gaza, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron. These were significant figures of authority among the Philistines.

When the lords of the Philistines witnessed the Ark being successfully returned to the Israelites and the celebration of the people of Beth Shemesh, they returned to Ekron, which was one of their major cities.
