Listen to this article

“Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok, Let me now run, and bear the king tidings, how that the Lord hath avenged him of his enemies.”

Context:The passage is part of the account of the battle between King David’s forces and the rebel forces led by his son Absalom. Absalom had revolted against his father and sought to take the kingdom for himself. In this verse, Ahimaaz, the son of Zadok, expresses his desire to bring news of the battle to King David.

Ahimaaz’s enthusiasm:Ahimaaz was eager to share the news of victory with King David. This demonstrates his loyalty to the king and his desire to be the bearer of good news. He recognised the significance of the battle and the importance of informing David of the outcome.

God’s involvement:Ahimaaz acknowledges that it was the Lord who had avenged David of his enemies. This statement recognises that victory ultimately comes from God. It emphasises that God is actively involved in the affairs of His people and brings justice and deliverance.

Faithfulness in service:Ahimaaz’s willingness to run and bear the news to King David reveals his commitment and loyalty to his king. It reflects his sense of duty and responsibility in fulfilling his role. This example encourages believers to be diligent and faithful in their service to God and others.

The importance of communication:Ahimaaz’s desire to inform David about the outcome of the battle highlights the importance of communication and keeping leaders informed. In our own lives, we should strive to communicate effectively and share important news in a timely manner.

Application:This passage reminds us to remain faithful in our service to God, to be eager to share good news, and to acknowledge God’s role in our victories. It also encourages us to communicate effectively and responsibly with those in authority.

Overall, 2 Samuel 18:19 (KJV) teaches us about loyalty, the involvement of God in our lives, faithfulness in service, the importance of communication, and the recognition of God’s role in our victories.
