2 Samuel Chapter 12

Summery

In 2 Samuel 12, the prophet Nathan confronts King David about his sins. Nathan tells David a parable about a rich man who unjustly took a poor man's only lamb, which angers David and makes him pass judgment on the rich man. Nathan then reveals that David is the rich man in the parable, pointing out that he had taken Uriah's wife, Bathsheba, and had Uriah killed.

Nathan informs David that because of his actions, God will bring calamity upon his household. David realizes the severity of his sins and confesses his wrongdoing, saying, "I have sinned against the Lord." Nathan assures David that his sins are forgiven, but warns him that there will still be consequences. The child conceived through David and Bathsheba's adultery falls ill, and despite David's fervent prayers, the child dies.

After the child's death, David worships the Lord and accepts His judgment. Bathsheba conceives another child, and they name him Solomon. The chapter concludes by mentioning the ongoing conflicts in David's kingdom.
