Exodus 4:7

Listen to this article

And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosome againe. And hee put his hand into his bosome againe, and plucked it out of his bosome, and behold, it was turned againe as his other flesh. Exodus 4:7 (KJV)

This verse occurs in the narrative where the LORD appears to Moses at the burning bush and commissions him to deliver Israel from Egyptian bondage. Moses voices doubts about his ability to convince both the Israelites and the Egyptians of his divine commission. In response, God provides a series of signs to demonstrate His power and to reassure Moses. He instructs Moses to place his hand into his bosom (his cloak or garment) a second time; when Moses withdraws it, the hand is restored to its normal, healthy condition. The miraculous restoration confirms that God is with Moses and will validate his authority before the people.

From this passage several key lessons emerge. First, God’s power and authority are evident in His ability to alter physical conditions, showing supremacy over creation. Second, the sign serves as confirmation and reassurance; when doubts arise, God meets them with tangible evidence of His backing. Third, obedience and trust are highlighted—Moses obeys an unusual command, reminding believers to follow God’s guidance even when it is unclear. Fourth, the transformation underscores God’s capacity to heal and renew broken areas of life, offering hope that He can restore what is leprous or damaged.

Overall, Exodus 4:7 reveals God’s desire to equip and assure Moses for the task ahead. It encourages believers to trust in God’s power, seek His guidance, and obey His instructions, confident that He can bring transformation and fulfill His purposes through us.
