Exodus 4:27

And the Lord said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him in the mount of God, and kissed him.

Context

This verse sits within the story of God calling Moses to deliver Israel from slavery in Egypt. God had just spoken to Moses from a burning bush on Mount Horeb, also called the mount of God. Now the LORD gives Aaron, Moses’ older brother, a direct command to travel into the wilderness and meet Moses at that same mountain. Aaron obeys without delay.

Meaning

Aaron’s immediate response shows faithful obedience to God’s specific instruction, even though the journey led him into remote and unfamiliar land. The meeting place, “the mount of God,” marks a holy appointment. There Aaron greeted Moses with a kiss, a common sign of respect, love, and unity in ancient Near Eastern culture. This warm gesture reveals the deep bond between the brothers and prepares them for the partnership ahead.

Biblical connections

God had already promised Moses that Aaron would come to meet him (Exodus 4:14). Here that promise is fulfilled as God speaks directly to Aaron.
