Exodus 4:30
And Aaron spake all the words which the Lord had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people.
Exodus 4:30 (KJV)
Context
This verse sits in the story of God calling Moses to free Israel from slavery in Egypt. Moses feared that the people would not listen to him, so God appointed Aaron, his brother, to speak for him. Here, Moses and Aaron have returned to Egypt and stand before the Israelites for the first time. This moment marks the beginning of their public ministry, as they deliver God’s message and display His power.
Meaning
Aaron spoke all the words that the LORD had given to Moses. He did not add or remove anything. This shows that God’s message must be delivered exactly as given. Then Aaron performed the signs in the sight of the people. These signs, such as the rod becoming a serpent, confirmed that God had truly sent Moses and Aaron. The signs were not for show; they authenticated the divine message and convinced the people that God was at work.
Biblical connections
God had promised Moses that Aaron would be his mouth (Exodus 4:14-16). This verse shows that promise beginning to come true, as Aaron speaks the very words God gave. The people’s belief and worship in the next verse show that God’s word and works together lead to faith. This event is a model for how God confirms His word through appointed messengers and visible works.
Application
Faithful communication matters. When we share God’s truth, we should speak it accurately and completely. We also see the value of teamwork. Moses and Aaron each had a role, and they worked together in obedience. God equips people for specific tasks and gives them the support they need. We can trust that God will confirm His word as we faithfully deliver it, just as He did for Moses and Aaron.
Reflection
The public nature of the signs reminds us that God’s work is often seen by many. The people witnessed the miracles firsthand, strengthening their trust in God’s chosen leaders. We can ask ourselves: do we faithfully pass on what God has given us, and do we trust that He confirms His word through His appointed messengers?
