Exodus 7:2

Posted on 2 August 2023
Listen to this article

“Thou shalt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land.”

Historical Context:The book of Exodus is primarily concerned with the deliverance of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. In Exodus 7, God is instructing Moses and Aaron on their mission to confront Pharaoh and demand the release of the Israelites.

God’s Command:In this verse, God is giving specific instructions to Moses and Aaron regarding their role in delivering the divine message to Pharaoh. Moses is to speak everything that God commands him, and Aaron, his brother, is to act as his spokesperson, relaying the message to Pharaoh.

Divine Authority:By stating “Thou shalt speak all that I command thee,” God establishes His authority over Moses and Aaron. It emphasises that they are to be faithful and obedient messengers, relaying the exact words that God gives them. It shows that Moses and Aaron are acting on behalf of God and have been given the divine authority to carry out this task.

Pharaoh’s Resistance:God’s purpose in sending Moses and Aaron to Pharaoh was to demand the release of the Israelites. However, it is important to note that God knew in advance that Pharaoh would resist their request. The subsequent chapters in Exodus reveal the plagues that God sent upon Egypt to demonstrate His power and to persuade Pharaoh to let the Israelites go.

Lessons for Believers:This verse reminds believers of the importance of obedience and faithfulness in carrying out God’s commands. Like Moses and Aaron, we are called to be messengers of God’s truth in the world. We should seek to faithfully convey His message, relying on His authority and guidance. We may encounter resistance or opposition, but we can trust that God is with us, just as He was with Moses and Aaron.

Jesus as the Ultimate Deliverer:As we study the book of Exodus, we can also see parallels with Jesus Christ as the ultimate Deliverer. Just as Moses and Aaron were sent to rescue the Israelites from slavery, Jesus came to deliver all humanity from the bondage of sin. Jesus perfectly fulfilled God’s commands and spoke with divine authority. Through His sacrificial death and resurrection, He offers freedom and salvation to all who believe in Him.

In conclusion, Exodus 7:2 highlights the role of Moses and Aaron as messengers of God’s commands to Pharaoh. It emphasises the importance of obedience, faithfulness, and reliance on God’s authority. As believers, we can draw lessons from this verse and see Jesus as the ultimate Deliverer who offers salvation and freedom to all who trust in Him.
