Exodus 8:30

Posted on 2 August 2023
Listen to this article

“And Moses went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the LORD.”

Context:The book of Exodus is the second book in the Old Testament and it tells the story of the Israelites’ liberation from slavery in Egypt. In this particular verse, Moses has just pleaded with Pharaoh to let the Israelites go and worship God in the wilderness.

Moses’ Intercession:In Exodus 8:30, we see Moses going out from Pharaoh after making his appeal. The word “intreated” signifies that Moses earnestly prayed and sought God’s intervention. Moses acted as an intercessor, someone who intercedes on behalf of others before God. He interceded for the Israelites, asking for God’s mercy and deliverance.

Persistence in Prayer:Throughout the narrative of Exodus, Moses consistently approached God in prayer, seeking His guidance, help, and favour. This verse highlights Moses’ perseverance in prayer, even in the face of resistance from Pharaoh. It serves as a reminder to believers to persistently seek God’s will and intervention through prayer, trusting in His power and faithfulness.

Trusting God’s Sovereignty:Despite the hardships and challenges Moses faced, he trusted in God’s sovereignty and relied on Him for deliverance. By leaving Pharaoh’s presence and turning to the Lord, Moses demonstrated his reliance on God’s authority and ability to answer his prayers. This verse encourages us to place our trust in God’s sovereignty and to approach Him with our concerns, knowing that He is in control of all situations.

Application to our Lives:Exodus 8:30 teaches us the importance of persistent prayer and relying on God’s sovereignty. It reminds us to bring our concerns and petitions before God, trusting that He hears and answers our prayers according to His perfect will. Just as Moses interceded for the Israelites, we are called to intercede for others and seek God’s intervention in their lives. Additionally, this verse encourages us to leave the presence of earthly powers and turn to the Lord, recognising that He alone has the ultimate authority and power to bring about transformation and deliverance.

In conclusion, Exodus 8:30 showcases Moses’ role as an intercessor, his persistence in prayer, and his trust in God’s sovereignty. It serves as an example for us to approach God with our concerns, trust in His power, and seek His intervention in our lives and the lives of others.
