Meaning

The Hebrew verb for “made ready” means to harness or yoke a chariot for battle, not for display. Pharaoh acts quickly and with full force, determined to bring Israel back into bondage. His choice is not a casual decision; it is a calculated move to crush the escaping nation.

Biblical connections

Earlier, God hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and now that hardness drives this swift response. The same chapter later shows God parting the sea and destroying the entire Egyptian army (Exodus 14:21-28). In our own lives, we may try to solve problems with our own strength, yet true deliverance comes from trusting God.
