Exodus 18:8

Posted on 4 August 2023
Listen to this article

“And Moses told his father in law all that the LORD had done unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel’s sake, and all the travail that had come upon them by the way, and how the LORD delivered them.”

Historical Context:Exodus is the second book of the Bible and it narrates the story of the Israelites’ deliverance from slavery in Egypt. In this particular verse, Moses recounts the events to his father-in-law, Jethro, who had come to meet him in the wilderness.

Moses’ Testimony:In this verse, Moses is sharing with Jethro the great acts of God on behalf of the Israelites. Moses tells him about how God had dealt with Pharaoh and the Egyptians, the hardships the Israelites had faced during their journey, and how God had miraculously delivered them from bondage.

God’s Deliverance:The focus of Moses’ testimony is on the deliverance brought about by the Lord. It emphasizes God’s intervention in the lives of His people, His faithfulness to His promises, and His power to save. This demonstrates that God is not indifferent to the suffering of His people, but rather, He acts on their behalf.

Importance of Sharing Testimonies:Moses’ act of sharing this testimony with Jethro serves as an example of the importance of sharing what God has done in our lives. Testimonies of God’s faithfulness, provision, and deliverance can encourage and inspire others in their own walk with God. It is a way of giving glory to God and pointing others to Him.

Acknowledging God’s Sovereignty:Moses’ testimony recognizes that all the events and experiences the Israelites went through were ultimately the result of God’s sovereign intervention. It highlights that God is in control of all circumstances and that He works all things for the good of those who love Him.

Reflection and Application:As we study this verse, we are reminded of the faithfulness of God in delivering His people. It encourages us to reflect on our own lives and consider the ways in which God has intervened on our behalf, delivered us from difficult situations, or provided for our needs. It also challenges us to share our testimonies with others to bring glory to God and encourage fellow believers.

In summary, Exodus 18:8 showcases Moses sharing with his father-in-law the great acts of God in delivering the Israelites from Egypt. This verse emphasizes the importance of sharing testimonies, acknowledges God’s sovereignty, and encourages reflection and application in our own lives.
