Exodus 23:20

Posted on 6 August 2023
Listen to this article

“Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.”

God’s Provision:The verse begins with the word “Behold,” emphasizing that God is about to make a significant announcement or revelation. It indicates that God is actively involved in the lives of His people and desires to communicate His plans to them. In this case, He assures the Israelites that He is sending an Angel to guide and guard them on their journey.

Divine Guidance:The Angel mentioned in this verse is an agent of God’s divine presence and authority. This Angel would go before the Israelites, leading them on the right path and ensuring they stay on track. The Angel’s role is to guide them in the way they should go and prevent them from straying or getting lost in the wilderness.

Protection and Preservation:The Angel’s purpose is not only to guide the Israelites but also to keep them safe. God promises that the Angel will protect them from dangers and threats along their journey. This assurance brings comfort and reassurance to the Israelites, knowing that God is watching over them and providing for their well‑being.

God’s Preparation:The verse also mentions that the Angel will bring the Israelites into the place God has prepared for them. This refers to the Promised Land, a land flowing with milk and honey, which God had promised to give to the descendants of Abraham. God not only guides and protects His people but also prepares a specific place for them‑a place of abundance, rest, and fulfilment of His promises.

Application:This verse has significance beyond its original context and can be applied to our lives today:

  • Trusting God’s Guidance:Just as the Israelites had to trust in the Angel’s guidance, we are called to trust in God’s leading in our lives. We should seek His guidance through prayer, studying His Word, and listening to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.
  • God’s Protection:God’s promise of protection extends to us as well. Though we may face challenges and difficulties, we can take comfort in knowing that God is with us, guarding us from harm and helping us overcome obstacles.
  • God’s Preparation:Just as God prepared a place for the Israelites, He has prepared a future and a purpose for each of us. We can have confidence that God is working behind the scenes, preparing the way for us to walk in His plans and experience His blessings.

Overall, Exodus 23:20 reminds us of God’s active involvement in our lives, His guidance, protection, and His faithfulness in preparing a place for us. It encourages us to trust in Him and follow His leading as we journey through life.
