“And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.”

Though God is transcendent and beyond human comprehension, He chose to manifest His presence in a tangible way through the tabernacle. By dwelling among the Israelites, God demonstrated His love, guidance, and provision for them. It symbolised His desire to be their God and for them to be His people.
The Significance:This verse carries profound theological significance. It foreshadows God’s ultimate plan of dwelling among humanity through the person of Jesus Christ. In the New Testament, John 1:14 states, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” Jesus, the Word made flesh, came to live among humanity, providing the ultimate fulfilment of God’s desire to dwell with His people. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus made it possible for people to have a personal relationship with God.
Moreover, as believers in Christ, we are now the dwelling place of God. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price.” God’s Spirit resides within each believer, transforming us and empowering us to live a life that honours Him.
