Exodus 26:28

Listen to this article

“And the middle bar in the midst of the boards shall reach from end to end.”

This verse is part of the detailed instructions that God gave to Moses regarding the construction of the Tabernacle, which was a portable sanctuary used by the Israelites during their wilderness journey. The Tabernacle was divided into several sections, including the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place.

In Exodus 26, God provides specific instructions for constructing the framework of the Tabernacle. The verse you mentioned, Exodus 26:28, focuses on the placement of a middle bar that spans from one end to the other end of the boards.

The purpose of this middle bar was to provide additional support and stability to the structure. The Tabernacle was designed to be dismantled and carried from one location to another as the Israelites moved through the wilderness. The boards were made of acacia wood and stood upright, forming the walls of the Tabernacle. The middle bar, along with other bars, would help secure and strengthen the framework.

Symbolically, the middle bar in the midst of the boards can be seen as a representation of unity and coherence. It ensured that the boards were firmly joined together, creating a unified structure. This unity is a valuable lesson for believers today. It highlights the importance of being connected and united as the body of Christ.

In the New Testament, we find the concept of unity emphasized in several passages. For example, in Ephesians 4:3, the apostle Paul exhorts believers to be “endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” This unity is based on the common faith and purpose we share as followers of Christ.

Just as the middle bar provided strength and stability to the Tabernacle, the unity among believers strengthens the Church and enables it to fulfill its mission in the world. When we stand together, united in our faith and love for God, we can withstand the challenges and pressures of life, and effectively represent Christ to the world.

In summary:Exodus 26:28 highlights the importance of unity and stability within the framework of the Tabernacle. This principle applies to believers today, emphasizing the significance of unity in the body of Christ. As we strive to remain united in faith, love, and purpose, we can stand strong, reflecting the glory of God and effectively fulfilling His purposes in the world.
