Leviticus 2:15

Posted on 8 August 2023
Listen to this article

“And thou shalt put oil upon it, and lay frankincense thereon: it is a meat offering.”

Leviticus 2:15 is part of a larger section in the book of Leviticus that deals with various offerings and sacrifices to be made by the Israelites in the tabernacle or temple. This specific verse focuses on the regulations for the grain offering or the “meat offering,” as it is referred to in the King James Version.

  • The Offering:The verse begins by instructing the Israelites to put oil on the grain offering. The use of oil in this context symbolises an anointing or consecration of the offering. Oil is often associated with the presence and blessing of God throughout the Bible.
  • Frankincense:The verse also mentions the addition of frankincense to the grain offering. Frankincense is a type of aromatic resin derived from trees, and it was commonly used in ancient religious rituals. The addition of frankincense to the offering adds a pleasant fragrance, which represents the pleasing aroma that ascends to God.
  • The Significance:The grain offering, along with the other offerings, held spiritual significance for the Israelites. It was a way for them to express gratitude, devotion, and dedication to God. The act of presenting offerings was an essential part of their worship and was meant to demonstrate their faith and obedience to God’s commands.
  • Application for Today:While the regulations for offerings described in Leviticus were specific to the ancient Israelites and their worship practices, there are lessons that can be applied to our lives today. The emphasis on presenting something pleasing to God can be seen as a reminder for us to offer our best to Him. Our lives, actions, and service can be considered as offerings to God, and we should strive to present ourselves in a manner that is pleasing and honoring to Him.

In summary, Leviticus 2:15 provides instructions for the grain offering, including the use of oil and frankincense. It reminds us of the importance of offering our best to God and presenting ourselves in a manner that is pleasing and dedicated to Him.
