Leviticus 7:35

Listen to this article

“This is the portion of the anointing of Aaron, and of the anointing of his sons, out of the offerings of the Lord made by fire, in the day when he presented them to minister unto the Lord in the priest’s office.”

Leviticus is a book in the Old Testament that contains detailed instructions given by God to the Israelites regarding various aspects of their religious life and the role of the priesthood. Leviticus 7:35 specifically discusses the portion or share that was given to Aaron and his sons as part of their anointing for their service as priests.

In the preceding verses of Leviticus 7, God provides guidelines for the offerings and sacrifices that were to be brought to the tabernacle as an act of worship. These offerings included burnt offerings, grain offerings, sin offerings, guilt offerings, and peace offerings. The passage outlines the specific portions of these offerings that were designated for the priests, particularly for Aaron and his sons, who were from the tribe of Levi.

The verse highlights that the portion given to Aaron and his sons was taken from the offerings of the Lord made by fire. This refers to the portions of the offerings that were burned on the altar as a symbol of devotion to God. The anointing of Aaron and his sons marked their consecration as priests and set them apart for the service of the Lord in the priest’s office.

The portion or share given to Aaron and his sons from the offerings served as a means of sustenance for the priesthood. Since the priests did not have land or possessions of their own, these portions were provided to meet their material needs. Additionally, the portion given to them symbolized the concept of tithing, where a portion of the people’s offerings was set aside for the support of the priesthood.

It’s important to note that the regulations and instructions outlined in Leviticus were specific to the Israelites during the time of the Old Testament. With the coming of Jesus Christ and the establishment of the New Covenant, the system of sacrifices and offerings described in Leviticus was fulfilled and superseded by the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

While the verse you mentioned may not have a direct application to contemporary Christian practice, it can still serve as a reminder of the importance of providing for those who serve in ministry and dedicating a portion of our resources to support the work of the Kingdom.

Overall:Leviticus 7:35 highlights the establishment of Aaron and his sons as priests and emphasizes the provision made for them from the offerings presented to the Lord. It teaches us about the significance of honoring and supporting those who are called to serve in ministry.
