Listen to this article

“And the princes offered for dedicating of the altar in the day that it was anointed, even the princes offered their offering before the altar.”

This verse is part of the account in the book of Numbers that describes the offerings brought by the leaders of the twelve tribes of Israel at the dedication of the altar of the tabernacle. Each leader or prince of a tribe offered specific items for the purpose of consecrating the altar.

In Numbers 7, the offerings made by the tribal princes are detailed extensively. Verse 10 specifically mentions that the princes offered their offerings before the altar on the day it was anointed. This verse emphasizes the participation of the leaders of the tribes in the act of consecration, signifying their support and commitment to the worship of God.

The act of anointing the altar symbolises the setting apart of the altar as holy and dedicated to God. It was an important step in the establishment of the tabernacle as the central place of worship for the Israelites during their time in the wilderness.

The offerings presented by the princes were significant and substantial. Each tribe’s leader brought the same offerings, consisting of silver platters, silver basins, and golden spoons, filled with flour mixed with oil as a grain offering. They also brought bulls, rams, and lambs as burnt offerings, along with goats for sin offerings. These offerings represented the dedication of their tribes to the worship of God and their desire for His favour and blessing.

The act of the tribal leaders bringing their offerings before the altar demonstrated their unity and commitment to the worship of God. It also showcased their willingness to submit to God’s authority and lead their tribes in faithful service.

Leadership:In a broader sense, this passage teaches us the importance of leadership and the role leaders play in the spiritual life of a community. The leaders of the tribes led by example, showing their dedication and commitment to God’s commandments and the worship of Him.

This verse reminds us of the significance of offering ourselves and our resources to God in worship and service. It encourages us to approach God with a sincere and willing heart, just as the tribal leaders did when they presented their offerings.

Overall, Numbers 7:10 provides us with insights into the consecration of the altar and the dedicated involvement of the tribal leaders in the worship of God. It teaches us about the importance of leadership and the significance of offering our lives and resources to God.
