Numbers 12:13

Posted on 13 December 2023
Listen to this article

“And Moses cried unto the Lord, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech thee.”

Context:Numbers 12 recounts an incident where Miriam and Aaron, siblings of Moses, spoke against him because of his Cushite wife. God responded by summoning them to the tabernacle, and He expressed His approval of Moses, stating that He speaks to prophets through visions and dreams, but with Moses, He speaks face to face. As a result, Miriam became leprous, and Aaron pleaded with Moses to intercede for her.

Moses’ Intercession:In this verse, we see Moses responding to Aaron’s plea by crying out to the Lord, requesting healing for Miriam. Despite the fact that Miriam had spoken against him, Moses showed compassion and love, interceding on her behalf. This demonstrates Moses’ humility, forgiveness, and his role as a mediator between the people and God.

The Power of Intercessory Prayer:Moses’ prayer highlights the power and importance of intercessory prayer. Intercession involves standing in the gap and appealing to God on behalf of others. Moses understood that God is the ultimate source of healing, and he sought divine intervention for Miriam’s restoration. Intercessory prayer allows us to bring the needs of others before God, seeking His mercy, grace, and healing in their lives.

God’s Response:Although the immediate response of God is not mentioned in this particular verse, we learn from the following verses (Numbers 12:14-15) that God heard Moses’ cry and responded by granting healing to Miriam. This emphasizes God’s compassion and willingness to respond to the prayers of His people. It also highlights the significance of seeking God’s intervention in times of need and trusting in His healing power.

Lessons on Forgiveness:The incident involving Miriam serves as a reminder of the importance of forgiveness. Despite Miriam and Aaron’s criticism, Moses did not hold a grudge against them. Instead, he chose to intercede for Miriam, asking God to heal her. Moses exemplified the virtue of forgiveness, showing that even when we face opposition or criticism, it is crucial to respond with love and forgiveness rather than harboring resentment or seeking revenge.

Overall, Numbers 12:13 teaches us about the power of intercessory prayer, the significance of forgiveness, and God’s willingness to respond to the cries of His people. It encourages us to approach God in prayer on behalf of others, trusting in His mercy and healing.
