Deuteronomy 30:9

And the Lord thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of thine hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy land, for good: for the Lord will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers:

Context

Moses speaks these words to Israel on the plains of Moab, just before the people enter the Promised Land. Deuteronomy is his farewell address, and it stresses the importance of obeying God’s commands. The surrounding chapter presents a clear choice between life and death, blessing and curse. This verse promises that when Israel returns to the Lord and obeys His voice, He will bless them abundantly.

Meaning

The promise covers every area of life: the work of their hands, their children, their livestock, and their land. This is not limited to material wealth. It shows God’s care for the whole person and the whole community. The phrase “for good” means God’s blessing is purposeful and beneficial. He does not bless randomly; He blesses to bring about what is truly good for His people.

He will “again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers.” The Hebrew word for rejoice expresses deep delight and joy. God does not bless His people reluctantly. He takes pleasure in their well-being. This joy echoes His past delight in the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and it promises a restoration of that same joy.
