Judges 8:17

And he beat downe the towre of Penuel, and slew the men of the citie. Judges 8:17 (KJV)

The phrasing “And he beat down the tower of Penuel, and slew the men of the city” is not found in the King James Version of the Bible. The nearest passage, Judges 8:20‑21, records the Israelites fleeing to the mountains and does not mention Gideon destroying a tower or killing the inhabitants of Penuel.

Context: This passage is part of the account of Gideon’s pursuit of the Midianite kings Zebah and Zalmunna after their defeat in battle. Gideon sought vengeance against the people of Penuel, who had refused to support him and his troops in their pursuit.

Gideon’s determination is evident after defeating the Midianites; he displayed great determination in pursuing the fleeing kings and desired to completely eliminate the threat they posed to Israel.
