Ruth 2:11

Listen to this article

"But Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore."

Context:The book of Ruth tells the story of a Moabite woman named Ruth who showed great loyalty and faithfulness to her mother-in-law, Naomi. After Naomi’s husband and two sons died, she decided to return to her homeland of Bethlehem, and Ruth chose to accompany her. Ruth’s actions and character caught the attention of a man named Boaz, who would later play a significant role in their lives.

Recognition of Ruth’s Sacrifice:In Ruth 2:11, Boaz acknowledges Ruth’s sacrificial actions. He recognizes that Ruth left her own family and her native land to stay with Naomi, showing her deep love and commitment. This verse highlights the significance of Ruth’s decision to leave behind her familiar surroundings to join a people she did not previously know.

Boaz’s Awareness:Boaz expresses that he has been informed about Ruth’s conduct since the death of her husband. This suggests that the people in the community noticed Ruth’s actions and had shared them with Boaz. It also indicates that Ruth’s character had made a lasting impression on others, including Boaz.

Boaz’s Kindness:Boaz’s response to Ruth in this verse reveals his kind-hearted nature. He recognizes the sacrifices Ruth has made and commends her for her actions. Boaz’s words convey his admiration for Ruth’s selflessness and her commitment to care for her mother-in-law.

Faithfulness and God’s Providence:Ruth’s commitment to Naomi and her willingness to leave her homeland demonstrate her faithfulness and trust in God’s leading. She did not know what her future would hold when she left Moab, but she chose to remain loyal to Naomi. It is through God’s providence that Ruth and Naomi end up in Bethlehem, where Boaz, a close relative of Naomi, would become instrumental in their lives.

Application:Ruth’s story teaches us important lessons about loyalty, selflessness, and trusting in God’s plan. Ruth’s decision to prioritize the needs of others and step out in faith serves as an example for us today. It encourages us to consider the well-being of others above our own and to trust God’s guidance even when the path is uncertain.

Overall, Ruth 2:11 showcases Ruth’s remarkable character and the recognition she receives for her sacrificial actions. It sets the stage for the unfolding story of redemption and blessing in the lives of Ruth and Naomi.
