Ruth 4:19

Posted on 18 January 2025
Listen to this article

"And Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab."

Context:The book of Ruth is a beautiful narrative that tells the story of a Moabite woman named Ruth who shows remarkable loyalty and faithfulness to her mother-in-law Naomi. Ruth’s faithfulness leads her to become part of the lineage of King David and, ultimately, Jesus Christ.

Genealogy and Lineage:Ruth 4:19 is a part of the genealogical account that traces the lineage from Perez (the son of Judah) to David. Hezron is mentioned as the son of Perez and the father of Ram. Ram, in turn, is the father of Amminadab.

Significance of Lineage:The mention of this lineage holds significance because it shows how God was working through ordinary people to bring about His ultimate plan of redemption. The inclusion of Ruth, a foreigner, in the genealogy of Jesus highlights God’s love and acceptance of people from all nations.

Spiritual Lessons:

  • God’s Plan:Ruth’s inclusion in the lineage of Jesus demonstrates God’s sovereign plan and his ability to use unexpected circumstances and individuals to accomplish His purposes. It reminds us that God can bring about great things even from humble beginnings.
  • Redemption:The story of Ruth is a story of redemption. It showcases how Boaz, a close relative, redeems Ruth by marrying her and providing for her and Naomi. This act of redemption is a foreshadowing of Jesus Christ, who came to redeem humanity from sin and offer eternal salvation through His sacrifice on the cross.
  • Faithfulness and Loyalty:Ruth’s unwavering loyalty to Naomi and her commitment to follow God’s leading serve as an example of faithfulness. Her faithfulness is rewarded as she becomes part of the Messianic lineage. This encourages us to remain faithful to God and trust in His plans, even in difficult times.
  • Inclusion and Acceptance:The inclusion of Ruth, a Moabite woman, in the lineage of Jesus emphasizes God’s desire for inclusivity and His acceptance of people from different backgrounds. It reminds us that in Christ, there is no distinction between races, cultures, or nationalities, and all believers are part of God’s family.

Application:As we study Ruth 4:19, we are reminded of God’s faithfulness, His redemptive plan, and the importance of our own faithfulness and loyalty. We are encouraged to trust in God’s leading, knowing that He can use our lives, no matter how ordinary or challenging they may seem, to accomplish His purposes and bring about His plans for our lives.

Remember to explore the entire book of Ruth and its surrounding chapters to gain a deeper understanding of the story and its spiritual significance.
