1 Samuel 24:15

Posted on 1 October 2025
Listen to this article

“The LORD therefore be judge, and judge between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of thine hand.”

Context:The verse is part of the narrative in 1 Samuel where Saul, the first king of Israel, was pursuing David, who would later become the next king. David had spared Saul’s life while Saul was in a vulnerable position in a cave, and after Saul acknowledged David’s righteousness, David addressed Saul with these words.

Trusting in God’s judgment:David acknowledges that it is God who ultimately judges between people. By saying, “The LORD therefore be judge, and judge between me and thee,” David expresses his confidence in God’s ability to discern the truth and decide justly in the conflict between him and Saul. It shows David’s commitment to leaving the matter in God’s hands and not taking revenge or seeking personal justice.

Seeking divine intervention:David asks God to “see” and “plead my cause.” He acknowledges that God is the ultimate defender of the righteous and asks for divine intervention in his situation. David recognizes that only God has the power to deliver him from Saul’s hand, indicating his dependence on God’s protection and deliverance.

Trusting God for deliverance:David expresses his faith and trust in God’s ability to rescue him. He seeks deliverance from Saul’s pursuit, acknowledging that his life is in God’s hands. David’s plea for deliverance underscores his reliance on God’s sovereign will and his belief that God is his ultimate protector.

Lessons for believers:This verse teaches believers to trust in God’s judgment and not take matters into their own hands. It reminds us to seek divine intervention and plead our cause before God, trusting Him to defend and deliver us from difficult situations. It encourages us to have faith in God’s ultimate control over our lives and to rely on Him as our refuge and strength.

Application:In our own lives, when faced with conflicts, injustices, or challenging circumstances, we can follow David’s example by entrusting the matter to God’s judgment, seeking His intervention, and trusting in His deliverance. We should cultivate a heart of reliance on God, knowing that He is our ultimate defender and the one who can bring justice and resolution to our situations.

Note: Other translations may have slightly different wording, but the key themes and lessons in the verse remain consistent.
