“And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.”
This verse is part of the account of King Solomon’s famous wisdom and judgment. In this chapter, Solomon has been established as the king of Israel after the death of his father, David. One of the key incidents that demonstrate Solomon’s wisdom is the well‑known story of the two women who came before him with a dispute over a baby.
In verses 16‑22, we learn that two women had given birth within days of each other, but one of the babies died during the night. Both women claimed to be the mother of the living child, and they brought their case before King Solomon for judgment. Solomon’s wisdom devised a plan to determine the true mother.
In verse 24, we see Solomon’s response to the situation. He requests a sword to be brought before him. This request reveals the depth of Solomon’s wisdom. By asking for a sword, he intends to employ a test that would reveal the true heart and love of the women involved.
