1 Kings 9:3

Posted on 13 Feb at 00:06

And the Lord said vnto him, I haue heard thy prayer and thy supplication that thou hast made before me: I haue hallowed this house which thou hast built, to put my Name there for euer, and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually. 1 Kings 9:3 (KJV)

God’s Response: In this passage God answers Solomon’s prayer and supplication. He affirms that He has heard Solomon’s prayer, that He has hallowed the house Solomon built, and that the house will bear His name forever. He also declares that His eyes and His heart will be there continually, indicating an enduring divine presence.

Hallowing the Temple: When God says He has hallowed the house, He is setting it apart as a holy place, a physical representation of His dwelling among His people. This act of hallowing signifies God’s approval and His intention to manifest His presence within the temple.

God’s Presence: The promise that God’s eyes and heart will be in the temple perpetually expresses His ongoing attention, commitment, and desire for a close relationship with His people. It assures believers that God is continually watching over the place of worship and, by extension, over His people.

Application:

  • The importance of prayer and supplication – Solomon’s prayer was heard and answered, reminding us that we can approach God with confidence, knowing He listens to the cries of His people.
  • The significance of consecrated spaces – Although the physical temple no longer stands, the New Testament teaches that believers themselves are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). Therefore we should keep our lives dedicated and set apart for God’s purposes.
  • The abiding presence of God – The assurance that God’s eyes and heart are always with us provides comfort and encouragement. Believers can trust that God is near, watching over them, and intimately involved in their daily lives.

In conclusion, 1 Kings 9:3 reveals God’s gracious response to Solomon’s prayer, His hallowing of the temple, and His perpetual presence within it. The verse teaches the enduring value of prayer, the call to live as a consecrated dwelling for God, and the comforting reality of God’s continual, intimate presence in the lives of believers.
