“Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.”

Certainly! Here is a Bible study on

Verse: “Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.”

Context:The passage you mentioned is from the book of 2 Kings in the Old Testament. It describes a significant event during the time of Elisha the prophet, when the city of Samaria was besieged by the king of Syria. The people inside the city were facing a severe famine and were desperate for food.

The Setting:The city of Samaria was surrounded by the Syrian army, and the people were suffering from extreme scarcity of food. The situation had become so dire that they resorted to eating unclean animals and even contemplated cannibalism. The city was on the verge of collapse.

The Prophecy:Prior to the events in verse 7, Elisha had prophesied that God would miraculously provide food for the people the next day. Though this seemed impossible, the Lord had promised an abundant provision. Four lepers, who were considered outcasts and lived outside the city gates, decided to take a chance and go to the Syrian camp.

The Flight:As the lepers approached the Syrian camp, God caused the Syrians to hear the sound of a great army advancing towards them. Filled with fear, they fled, leaving behind their tents, horses, donkeys, and provisions. The lepers discovered the deserted camp and saw that it was filled with abundant food and valuable items.

The Miraculous Provision:The lepers ate and drank their fill from the provisions they found, but they also realised that it would be unfair to keep the news to themselves while their fellow citizens were suffering. They went back to the city and shared the good news, leading to a great rush of people who collected the food and experienced God’s miraculous provision.

Lessons to Learn:

  • God’s faithfulness: This passage demonstrates God’s faithfulness to His promises. Despite the dire circumstances, He provided for His people in a miraculous way.
  • Faith and action: The lepers took a step of faith by going towards the Syrian camp, and God honoured their faith by orchestrating a supernatural deliverance. It teaches us that sometimes we need to step out in faith, even when the situation seems impossible.
  • God’s unexpected methods: God chose to use four lepers, who were outcasts, to bring about His deliverance. This reminds us that God can work through unlikely people and situations to accomplish His purposes.
  • Sharing God’s blessings: The lepers felt a responsibility to share the good news and the provisions they found. It teaches us the importance of sharing God’s blessings with others and not keeping them to ourselves.

In conclusion, 2 Kings 7:7 showcases God’s faithfulness, the importance of faith and action, God’s unexpected methods, and the significance of sharing His blessings with others.
