2 Kings 8:3

Listen to this article

“And it came to pass at the seven years’ end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land.”

Historical Context:In order to understand the significance of this verse, it’s important to consider the historical context. This verse is part of the narrative of Elisha, the prophet, during the reign of the kings of Israel. At this time, Jehoram was the king of Israel.

The Woman’s Circumstances:Prior to this verse, the woman mentioned had left her land and sought refuge in the land of the Philistines due to a severe famine in the region. It was a challenging time for her, as she lost her house and land during her absence.

The Duration of Her Stay:The verse mentions that the woman returned at the end of seven years. This suggests that she had been living as a foreigner in the land of the Philistines for a considerable period of time.

Seeking Justice from the King:After her return, the woman went to the king to make a plea regarding her house and land. It’s likely that during her absence, her property had been seized or claimed by others. She sought justice from the king, who was the ultimate authority in the land, to regain what was rightfully hers.
