2 Kings 19:19

Posted on 18 May at 11:40

“Now therefore, O LORD our God, I beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD God, even thou only.”

Context:In this verse, King Hezekiah of Judah is facing a great threat from the Assyrian king, Sennacherib. The Assyrians had conquered many nations, including Israel, and now they were threatening to invade Jerusalem. Hezekiah seeks deliverance and prays to God for salvation.

Trusting in God’s Power:Hezekiah’s prayer demonstrates his unwavering trust in God’s power and sovereignty. He recognizes that the deliverance they need can only come from God. By seeking God’s intervention, he shows his dependence on Him rather than relying on his own military might or human resources.

Acknowledging God’s Authority:Hezekiah acknowledges that God alone is the LORD God, the supreme ruler over all the kingdoms of the earth. He realizes that the ultimate purpose of their deliverance is not just their own safety but also to demonstrate God’s power and authority to the whole world. He wants all nations to recognize that there is no other God like Yahweh.

  • Trusting in God’s Power:Just as Hezekiah trusted in God’s power, we should also rely on Him in times of trouble. God is able to deliver us from any challenge we face, and our faith in Him should be unwavering.
  • Seeking God’s Glory:Hezekiah’s desire for God’s glory to be revealed should also be our desire. We should pray for God’s will to be done and for His name to be glorified in our lives and circumstances.
  • Acknowledging God’s Authority:We should recognize God’s authority over all things and submit to His sovereignty. Like Hezekiah, we should acknowledge that God alone is the LORD God, and there is no other.
