1 Chronicles 3:6

Listen to this article

Ibhar also, and Elishama, and Eliphelet, 1 Chronicles 3:6 (KJV)

The verse is found in the Old Testament book of 1 Chronicles, a historical work that records the genealogy of Israel, especially the lineage of King David. Chapter 3 presents the descendants of David, and verse 6 continues the list of names associated with his household.

Verse 6 records the names Ibhar, Elishama, and Eliphelet. The text does not specify their exact relationship to David, nor does it state that they were born in Hebron or Jerusalem. Their precise connection to the royal family remains unclear from the passage itself.

Beyond the listing of these three individuals, the Bible provides no further details about their lives, roles, or contributions to the biblical narrative. The lack of additional information underscores the verse’s function as a genealogical entry rather than a narrative account.

The genealogies in 1 Chronicles were intended to establish the rightful succession of the Davidic throne and to trace the ancestry that would ultimately lead to the Messiah. By preserving the names of even lesser‑known members of David’s household, the record affirms the continuity of God’s covenant promises concerning the house of David.

Although this particular verse offers no explicit theological or moral teaching, it serves as a reminder of God’s faithfulness in maintaining the chosen line. The inclusion of Ibhar, Elishama, and Eliphelet contributes to the broader historical picture of David’s family and reflects the sovereign plan that culminates in the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of David.

In sum, 1 Chronicles 3:6 provides a brief yet significant glimpse into the extensive genealogical record surrounding King David, highlighting the meticulous preservation of his lineage and the fulfillment of divine promises throughout Israel’s history.
