1 Chronicles 5:8

Posted on 18 May at 11:32

“And Bela the son of Azaz, the son of Shema, the son of Joel, who dwelt in Aroer, even unto Nebo and Baal-meon: 1 Chronicles 5:8 (KJV)”

hronicles 5:8 is part of a genealogical record found in the book of Chronicles. This passage specifically mentions the genealogy of the tribe of Reuben, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. Here, the focus is on the descendants of Reuben up to a particular individual named Bela.

Let’s examine some key aspects to gain a better understanding:

Bela:Bela is identified as the son of Azaz, the son of Shema, the son of Joel. He is mentioned as part of the lineage of Reuben. This lineage traces the ancestry of Bela back to the early generations of the tribe.

Dwelling places:The verse mentions the places where Bela and his descendants lived. It states that Bela dwelt in Aroer, which was a city situated near the Arnon River in the territory of Moab. From Aroer, the verse continues to list Nebo and Baal-meon, which were also locations where the descendants of Bela resided.

It’s important to note that the book of Chronicles focuses on the historical and genealogical records of the Israelite people. It emphasizes the importance of lineage, tribes, and the history of God’s chosen people. The genealogies in Chronicles serve to establish the continuity and heritage of the various tribes and families within Israel.

While this verse may not contain explicit teachings or moral lessons like other parts of the Bible, it contributes to the overall understanding of the historical and genealogical context of the Israelite tribes. It helps to establish the lineage of the tribe of Reuben and provides historical information about the dwelling places of Bela and his descendants.

As with any passage in the Bible, it is beneficial to consider the broader context and explore related verses and chapters to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the biblical message.
