1 Chronicles 6:39

Posted on 18 May at 11:32

“And his brother Asaph, who stood on his right hand, even Asaph the son of Berachiah, the son of Shimea”

Passage:And his brother Asaph, who stood on his right hand, even Asaph the son of Berachiah, the son of Shimea (1 Chronicles 6:39, KJV).

Context:The passage is part of the genealogical record found in the book of 1 Chronicles. Chapter 6 focuses on the genealogy of the tribe of Levi and their responsibilities in the service of the tabernacle and later the temple.

Asaph:Asaph is mentioned several times throughout the books of 1 Chronicles and 2 Chronicles. He was a Levite, one of the sons of Berachiah and the grandson of Shimea. Asaph is primarily known as a musician and a prominent leader in the worship and music ministry of King David. He is attributed with composing a significant number of the Psalms (e.g., Psalms 50 and 73-83) and played a vital role in the organization and administration of the musical worship in the tabernacle and the temple.

Position:The verse mentions that Asaph stood on the right hand of his brother. This likely refers to their positioning during their duties in the tabernacle or the temple. Asaph, being an important figure in the Levitical service, had a specific role and responsibility.

Importance of Worship:The mention of Asaph and his position highlights the significance of worship in the lives of God’s people. Asaph’s role as a musician and leader of worship demonstrates the importance of music and praise in the spiritual life of the Israelites. It also emphasizes the role of worship in bringing people closer to God and honoring Him.

The Psalms:Asaph’s involvement in composing many of the Psalms provides further insight into the spiritual and creative gifts God has bestowed upon His people. The Psalms are a valuable source of inspiration and guidance for believers, expressing a range of emotions, prayers, and praises to God.
