1 Chronicles 7:25

And Rephah was his son, also Resheph, and Telah his son, and Tahan his son,

1 Chronicles 7:25 (KJV)

The book of 1 Chronicles traces the genealogy of Israel from Adam to the Babylonian exile. This verse belongs to the family line of Ephraim, one of the twelve sons of Jacob and a son of Joseph. The surrounding passage, 1 Chronicles 7:20-23, lists Ephraim’s earlier descendants, including Shuthelah, Bered, and Tahath. This particular line continues through Rephah, Resheph, Telah, and Tahan. These genealogies are not random lists; they trace real families through specific generations, showing that God’s plan unfolds through historical people and events.

Rephah is named only here in Scripture, and the same is true for Resheph, Telah, and Tahan. The Bible gives no further details about their lives or deeds. Their sole purpose in this record is to show the continuation of Ephraim’s family. Each name marks one generation in a chain that God preserved with care. The brevity of their mention reminds us that many faithful people remain unknown to us, yet they are fully known to God.

This genealogy is not an isolated list. The line continues in the following verses to Laadan, Ammihud, Elishama, Non, and Joshua. Elishama was a prince of Ephraim in the wilderness (Numbers 1:10). Joshua later led Israel into the Promised Land. Thus, these obscure names connect directly to a central figure in Israel’s history, showing how God prepared a deliverer through many generations. The chain from Ephraim to Joshua demonstrates that God often works through a long sequence of ordinary people to accomplish His purposes.

Most people in this list are unknown to us, yet each one mattered to God. Their inclusion reminds us that God works through ordinary and often overlooked individuals. A person does not need to be famous to have a place in God’s purposes. Faithfulness in one generation prepares the way for the next. Whether we are seen or not, our lives can contribute to God’s redemptive story.

These names also affirm the value of family heritage and the reliability of Scripture in preserving historical records. God knows each of His people by name and remains sovereign over every generation. Believers today can take comfort that their lives, even when unnoticed by others, are part of God’s larger story. The same God who guided Ephraim’s descendants through centuries also guides His people now. He is faithful across all generations, and He calls us to trust Him with the legacy we leave.
