1 Chronicles 7:31

Posted on 18 May at 11:32

And the sonnes of Beriah: Heber, and Malchiel, who is the father of Birzauith. 1 Chronicles 7:31 (KJV)

First, let’s read the verse: 1 Chronicles 7:31 (KJV). The book of 1 Chronicles is a historical account that focuses on the genealogies and lineage of the Israelites. It traces the ancestry of various tribes and families, highlighting their importance in the history of Israel. Chapter 7 specifically provides genealogical records of several tribes, including Asher and Benjamin, among others.

The sons of Beriah:

Beriah is listed among the descendants of Benjamin. He is mentioned as the head of a family within that tribe. The verse records two of his sons, Heber and Malchiel. Both are noted as part of the family line of Benjamin, indicating their place within the tribal structure.

Heber and Malchiel:

Heber and Malchiel are identified as the two sons of Beriah. Their inclusion in the genealogical record underscores the careful preservation of family lines in the biblical narrative. Malchiel is further identified as the father of Birzavith, adding another generation to the record.

Overall significance:

While this verse does not present an explicit moral or theological teaching, it serves an important function in the larger narrative of the tribe of Benjamin. By documenting the descendants of Beriah, the passage contributes to the intricate genealogical framework that undergirds the Old Testament’s historical and covenantal themes. Such records help readers appreciate the continuity of God’s people and the way individual families fit into the broader story of Israel. Studying these genealogies in their wider context can deepen our understanding of the relationships among the tribes and the way God’s promises were carried forward through successive generations.
