1 Chronicles 9:28

Posted on 18 May at 11:33

And certaine of them had the charge of the ministring vessels, that they should bring them in and out by tale. 1 Chronicles 9:28 (KJV)

This verse belongs to a passage in 1 Chronicles that lists the various duties and responsibilities of the Levites and priests in the service of the temple. It gives insight into the organization and functions of those involved in the worship and service of God. In this specific verse we see that some of the Levites were entrusted with the responsibility of caring for and managing the ministering vessels that were used in the temple for the various rituals and sacrifices.

The phrase “to bring them in and to bring them out by tale” (or “by the hand”) refers to the meticulous manner in which the Levites handled these vessels. They were to count and keep track of them as they were brought into or taken out of the temple, ensuring that everything was accounted for. This attention to detail and order was crucial in maintaining the sanctity and reverence of the holy objects used in worship.

The passage highlights the importance of order, organization, and attention to detail in the service of God. The Levites’ careful counting and handling of the ministering vessels demonstrate their dedication to God and their commitment to fulfilling their role as servants in His house.

From this verse we can draw several key principles for our own lives:

  • Faithfulness in responsibilities – The Levites’ meticulous care of the ministering vessels serves as an example of faithfulness in the tasks entrusted to us, whether big or small.
  • Reverence and attention to detail – Their careful handling reveals a deep reverence for the holy objects used in worship. It reminds us to approach our worship of God with reverence and to value the sacredness of the things dedicated to Him.
  • Order and organization – The verse emphasizes the importance of order and organization in the service of God. Just as the Levites kept track of the vessels, we should bring order and organization to our lives, ensuring that our priorities align with God’s will.

Overall, 1 Chronicles 9:28 encourages us to be faithful, reverent, and orderly in our service to God. It reminds us that even seemingly small tasks can hold great significance when done with dedication and a heart that seeks to honour and please the Lord.
