1 Chronicles 11:10

Posted on 18 May at 11:30

“These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the Lord concerning Israel.”

Context:The Book of 1 Chronicles is a historical account that primarily focuses on the reign of King David and the establishment of the Davidic dynasty in Israel. It provides genealogies, descriptions of important events, and the organisation of the priesthood and temple worship. 1 Chronicles 11:10 specifically highlights the mighty men who supported David in his kingship.

The Mighty Men:The verse begins by referring to “the chief of the mighty men.” These were individuals who played a significant role in David’s administration and military leadership. They were known for their bravery, loyalty, and dedication to David and the nation of Israel.

David’s Strength:The verse states that these mighty men “strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom.” David’s strength and authority as king were not just based on his own abilities but also on the support he received from these mighty men. They united with him to establish and maintain his rule.

God’s Plan:The verse further emphasises that these mighty men helped make David king “according to the word of the Lord concerning Israel.” This highlights the divine plan and purpose behind David’s ascension to the throne. God had chosen David to be the king of Israel, and these mighty men played a vital role in fulfilling God’s word and establishing David as the rightful ruler.

  • Unity and Support:The example of David and his mighty men teaches us the importance of unity and support in accomplishing God’s purposes. Just as David received support from his mighty men, we are encouraged to strengthen and support one another as members of the body of Christ.
  • God’s Plan and Purpose:The verse reminds us that God has specific plans and purposes for our lives. It is important for us to align ourselves with His will and seek His guidance as we serve Him and fulfil our roles in His kingdom.
  • Leadership:David’s relationship with his mighty men illustrates the significance of godly leadership. As leaders, we should surround ourselves with individuals who will strengthen and support us, and together, we can fulfil the plans God has for us and His people.

Overall, 1 Chronicles 11:10 highlights the importance of unity, support, and aligning ourselves with God’s plan. It encourages us to be strong and supportive in our relationships and to seek God’s will in our lives and leadership roles.
