1 Chronicles 12:23

Posted on 18 May at 11:30

And these are the numbers of the bands, that were ready armed to the warre, and came to Dauid to Hebron, to turne the kingdome of Saul to him, according to the word of the Lord. 1 Chronicles 12:23 (KJV)

And these

are the numbers of the bands

that were

ready armed to the war,

and came to David

to Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the word of the LORD. 1 Chronicles 12:23 (KJV)

This verse is part of a larger passage in 1 Chronicles 12 that describes the gathering of warriors from the tribes of Israel to join David in Hebron. They came to support David in establishing his reign and to transfer the kingdom from Saul, who had died, to David, as directed by the Lord.

1 Chronicles 12:23 highlights the significance of these warriors and emphasizes their preparedness for battle. It speaks of “the numbers of the bands that were ready armed to the war.” This indicates that the warriors were well‑equipped and trained for combat, demonstrating their commitment to serve David and fulfill the Lord’s purpose.

It is important to note the historical context of this verse. David was anointed by Samuel to be the future king of Israel while Saul was still ruling. However, after Saul’s death there was a period of transition during which David’s reign needed to be established. Many people recognized David as the rightful king and rallied behind him, including valiant warriors who were eager to support his cause.

This passage reminds us of several spiritual lessons. Firstly, it highlights the importance of being prepared and equipped for the tasks or challenges that God has called us to. Just as the warriors were armed and ready for battle, we should be spiritually equipped and prepared to fulfill God’s purposes in our lives. Secondly, it illustrates the significance of unity and support among believers. The warriors came together, united in their purpose to turn the kingdom to David. In the same way, as followers of Christ, we should strive for unity and support one another in fulfilling God’s plans and advancing His kingdom. Lastly, this passage emphasizes the sovereignty of God. The verse concludes with the phrase “according to the word of the LORD,” indicating that the events unfolding were in accordance with God’s will and divine plan. It reminds us that even in times of transition or uncertainty, God remains in control, directing and orchestrating His purposes.

Overall, 1 Chronicles 12:23 highlights the readiness of the warriors who came to support David, the importance of preparation and unity, and the sovereignty of God in fulfilling His plans. It serves as a reminder for us to be prepared, united, and to trust in God’s guidance as we seek to fulfill His purposes in our own lives.
