1 Chronicles 18:11

Posted on 18 May at 11:30

Them also king Dauid dedicated vnto the Lord, with the siluer and the golde that he brought from all these nations: from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek. 1 Chronicles 18:11 (KJV)

According to 1 Chronicles 18, King David brought the spoils of war—silver and gold to the LORD. The book of 1 Chronicles records the reign of King David, emphasizing his military conquests and his preparations for building the temple. Chapter 18 portrays David’s great victories over surrounding nations, including Edom, Moab, Ammon, the Philistines, and Amalek, and shows how those triumphs contributed to the expansion of his kingdom.

Dedication to the Lord: This passage highlights an important aspect of David’s character—his dedication to the LORD. After each military success, David set apart the silver and gold taken from the conquered peoples and offered them to God. The act demonstrates his recognition that all success and wealth ultimately come from God and should be consecrated for His purposes.

Gratitude and Acknowledgment: By dedicating the spoils, David expressed gratitude for God’s hand in his victories. The verse reminds believers to acknowledge that every blessing, achievement, or possession originates from God and to give thanks for His provision.

The Principle of Giving: David’s offering teaches the principle of generous giving. He gave back to God not only material wealth but also modeled a heart willing to honor the LORD with all resources entrusted to him. This includes financial assets as well as time, talents, and abilities, urging believers to be generous stewards of what God has given.

God’s Ownership and Stewardship: Through this dedication, David recognized God’s ownership over all things. He understood that the wealth he acquired was ultimately God’s, prompting him to act as a caretaker rather than an owner. This verse challenges us to examine our own view of ownership, reminding believers that we are temporary stewards of God’s blessings and are called to manage them faithfully for His glory.
