1 Chronicles 28:15

Posted on 18 May at 11:32

Euen the weight for the Candlestickes of golde, and for their lampes of golde, by weight for euery candlesticke, and for the lampes thereof: and for the Candlestickes of siluer by weight, both for the Candlesticke and also for the lampes thereof, according to the vse of euery candlesticke. 1 Chronicles 28:15 (KJV)

This verse is part of a larger passage where King David addresses the assembly of leaders, including his son Solomon, to share God’s plan for the construction of the temple in Jerusalem. In this specific verse David provides precise instructions regarding the materials and specifications for the candlesticks and lamps that were to adorn the holy sanctuary.

Candlesticks and lamps are significant symbols in Scripture, representing light and illumination. They are associated with the presence of God and His guidance. In the temple they were to provide physical light, which points to the spiritual illumination and revelation that flow from God to His people.

David emphasizes the use of precious metals—gold and silver—in the making of these furnishings. The choice of such valuable materials highlights the importance and value attributed to the worship of God and reflects the glory and majesty of His presence within the temple.

The verse also records the meticulous measurement of each component according to a specific weight. This attention to detail underscores the reverence and care required in worship, teaching believers to approach their relationship with God with a sense of awe, respect, and precision.

Furthermore, the construction of each candlestick and its lamp was tailored to its intended use, ensuring that they would serve their function effectively. This purposeful design illustrates the importance of understanding and employing our unique gifts and talents for God’s purposes.

Overall, 1 Chronicles 28:15 reminds us of the significance of light, the use of precious materials, careful workmanship, and purposeful design in worship. It encourages us to approach our relationship with God reverently, recognizing His presence, seeking His guidance, and allowing His illumination to shape our lives.
