2 Chronicles 3:15

Also he made before the house two pillars of thirty and five cubits high, and the chapiter that was on the top of each of them was five cubits.

2 Chronicles 3:15 (KJV)

Solomon built the temple in Jerusalem as the dwelling place of God among Israel. This verse records two pillars set before the house. Their names, Jachin and Boaz, mean “He establishes” and “In Him is strength.” The pillars stood at the entrance, marking the way into God’s presence. They were not merely decorative; they declared the character of the God who met His people there.

The verse gives exact measurements: each pillar was thirty-five cubits high, and each chapiter, or ornamental capital, was five cubits. The parallel account in 1 Kings 7:15 says each pillar was eighteen cubits, which likely refers to the height of one pillar, while thirty-five cubits here may be the combined height of both. The precise numbers show careful planning and the dignity of God’s house. The chapiters, possibly of lily work, added beauty to the structure, reminding worshipers that God’s dwelling is both strong and glorious.

The pillars stood one on the right and one on the left, like the two cherubim in the holy place. Their names declare that God establishes His people and gives them strength. The temple itself pointed to Christ, who called His body the true temple (John 2:19-21). In Him, God’s presence and stability are fully revealed. As the true temple, Christ is the foundation of the Church, and in Him believers find lasting security.

These pillars remind believers that God is the source of stability and strength. Just as the temple was built with order and precision, so a faithful life follows God’s design. The towering height draws the eye upward, teaching us to look to God rather than to human effort. When we face uncertainty, we can trust the One who establishes and strengthens His people.

The pillars before the temple declare that God’s presence is secure. Let this verse encourage you to rely on His faithfulness and to live within the order He has set. God’s covenant faithfulness to Israel stands as a lasting witness, and through Christ, that same faithfulness reaches every believer today.
