2 Chronicles 6:5

Posted on 18 May at 11:39

Since the day that I brought foorth my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no citie among all the tribes of Israel to builde an house in, that my Name might be there, neither chose I any man to be a ruler ouer my people Israel: 2 Chronicles 6:5 (KJV)

2 Chronicles 6:5 is part of King Solomon’s prayer of dedication for the newly built temple in Jerusalem, a chapter that records Solomon’s long prayer in which he acknowledges God’s faithfulness to fulfill His promises and seeks God’s continued presence and blessings upon the people of Israel. Solomon declares that God had not chosen any particular city among the tribes of Israel to establish His presence and build a house until that time, making the construction of the temple in Jerusalem a significant event as it became the dwelling place of God’s name and a symbol of His presence among His people. He also acknowledges that God’s chosen people, the Israelites, were brought out of the land of Egypt, highlighting their deliverance from slavery and the fulfillment of God’s promise to Abraham to make his descendants into a great nation. Furthermore, Solomon emphasizes that God did not appoint any human ruler over the people of Israel; instead He established His authority as the ultimate ruler, affirming God’s sovereignty and the truth that He alone is the true leader of His people.

The construction of the temple in Jerusalem marked a significant moment in Israel’s history and reminds us that God desires to dwell among His people and have His name honored and revered. As believers today we can be assured of God’s presence in our lives and should seek to honor His name in all that we do. The reference to the Israelites’ deliverance from Egypt highlights God’s faithfulness in fulfilling His promises, serving as a reminder of His redemptive work throughout history and His ability to deliver His people from any situation. We should remember God’s faithfulness and trust Him to guide us through the challenges we face. Solomon’s statement that God did not appoint a human ruler over His people Israel reminds us of God’s ultimate authority, teaching us to submit to God’s rule, acknowledge Him as the supreme leader in our lives, seek His guidance, and follow His commands, knowing that His plans are perfect.

In summary, 2 Chronicles 6:5 emphasizes the significance of the temple in Jerusalem as God’s chosen dwelling place and His faithfulness in delivering the Israelites from Egypt, while also underscoring God’s sovereignty as the true ruler over His people. As believers we can learn from these verses by recognizing God’s presence in our lives, remembering His faithfulness, and submitting to His sovereign rule.
