2 Chronicles 20:16

Posted on 18 May at 11:38

“Tomorrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.”

Historical Context: 2 Chronicles 20 records the account of King Jehoshaphat of Judah facing a great enemy alliance. The Moabites, Ammonites, and others came together to wage war against Judah. Overwhelmed by the situation, Jehoshaphat turned to the Lord for help.

Trusting in God’s Guidance: In verse 15, Jehoshaphat received a word from God through the prophet Jahaziel. God assured him that the battle was not his, but God’s. In verse 16, Jehoshaphat is given specific instructions about the enemy’s location and the battle strategy. This verse highlights the importance of seeking God’s guidance and following His instructions.

God’s Omniscience and Providence: God not only assured Jehoshaphat of victory but also provided specific details about the enemy’s location. God revealed that the enemy would be found at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel, as they came up by the cliff of Ziz. This demonstrates God’s omniscience and His ability to provide precise guidance and direction.

Stepping out in Faith: The instructions given to Jehoshaphat required faith and obedience. Despite facing a formidable enemy, he had to trust God’s word and act accordingly. The king had to march his army toward the enemy and confront them, believing that God would fulfill His promise of victory. This teaches us the importance of faith in taking action based on God’s word, even when the circumstances seem overwhelming.

Applying to Our Lives: While we may not face physical battles like Jehoshaphat, we encounter various challenges in our lives. The principles from this verse can be applied to our situations. We are encouraged to seek God’s guidance, trust in His omniscience and providence, and step out in faith, knowing that God is with us. We can rely on God’s promises and His direction to face our battles with confidence.

Overall, 2 Chronicles 20:16 reminds us of the importance of seeking God’s guidance, trusting in His providence, and stepping out in faith. It encourages us to rely on God’s wisdom and direction as we face challenges in our lives, knowing that He is with us and will guide us to victory.
