2 Chronicles 32:7

Posted on 18 May at 11:39

Be strong and couragious, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there bee moe with vs, then with him. 2 Chronicles 32:7 (KJV)

“Be of good courage, and let us go up; for the LORD shall give us victory.”

Historical Context: At this point in history the Assyrian Empire was expanding rapidly. King Sennacherib had already conquered several nations, including the northern kingdom of Israel, whose capital Samaria fell in 722 BC. Turning his attention to Judah, he laid siege to its fortified cities, creating a climate of fear and uncertainty.

King Hezekiah’s Response: Hezekiah took decisive steps to prepare for the impending invasion. He repaired the city walls, built additional defenses, and redirected water sources to deny the Assyrians fresh water. He also encouraged the people to trust in God, offering reassurance of divine deliverance.

Trusting in God’s Deliverance: In verse 7 Hezekiah addresses the people, urging them to be strong and courageous and not to be afraid or discouraged by the might of the Assyrian army. He affirms that the LORD will grant them victory and reminds them that “there be more with us than with him,” emphasizing reliance on God’s power rather than human strength.

Trusting God in the Face of Overwhelming Odds: Hezekiah’s words inspire believers to place their trust in God even when circumstances appear dire. When faced with challenges that seem insurmountable, we can find strength and courage by leaning on God, remembering that He is greater than any obstacle.

The Power of God’s Presence: The assurance that God’s presence backs us highlights the significance of divine intervention. Aligning ourselves with God means we have the support of a greater force, and the resources at our disposal extend beyond what is visible in the physical realm.

Encouragement to Unity: Hezekiah’s message was intended to unify the people in their trust and dependence on God. Likewise, believers are called to stand together in faith, supporting and encouraging one another. The community of believers provides strength as we face challenges and remain steadfast in our commitment to God.

In conclusion, 2 Chronicles 32:7 teaches an important lesson about trusting God’s power and provision amid overwhelming circumstances. It calls us to be strong, courageous, and unwavering in faith, confident that God’s presence and resources far surpass any opposition we may encounter.
