Psalms 12:7

Posted on 18 May at 15:18

“Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.”

Context and Background: Psalm 12 is attributed to David and is classified as a psalm of lament or complaint. In this psalm, David expresses his concern and distress over the wickedness and deceitfulness he observes among the people around him. He seeks God’s help and intervention in the midst of such challenging circumstances.

God’s Faithful Preservation: In Psalm 12:7, David affirms his confidence in God’s faithfulness to preserve His people. The psalmist recognizes that amidst a generation characterized by ungodliness, God is the source of protection and preservation. David acknowledges that the Lord is actively involved in safeguarding His people from the evil that surrounds them.

The Promised Preservation: The verse emphasizes God’s commitment to preserving His people not only for a temporary period but forever. This assurance of everlasting preservation demonstrates God’s unchanging nature and His eternal covenant with His chosen ones. It reveals God’s faithfulness, ensuring the ultimate salvation and security of His people in both this life and the life to come.

Application: (a) Trusting God’s Preservation: As believers, we can draw comfort and encouragement from the promise of God’s preservation. In the face of challenging circumstances or when surrounded by wickedness, we can trust that God will protect and preserve us. This should inspire us to place our trust in Him and seek His guidance and help.
