Psalms 27:14

Posted on 18 May at 15:17

“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”

Certainly! Here’s a Bible study on Psalm 27:14 (KJV):

Psalm 27:14 (KJV) says: “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”

Context: To fully understand this verse, it is important to consider the context of the entire psalm. Psalm 27 is a psalm of David, expressing his confidence and trust in the Lord despite facing various challenges and enemies. It is a beautiful psalm that reflects David’s deep reliance on God and his desire for His presence and deliverance.

Waiting on the Lord: The verse begins with the exhortation to “Wait on the LORD.” Waiting on the Lord implies a patient and confident expectation of His intervention and guidance. It involves trusting in His timing and resting in His faithfulness. Waiting on the Lord requires us to surrender our own plans and desires to His will, recognizing that He knows what is best for us.

Be of good courage: The verse continues, “be of good courage.” David encourages us to have courage and take heart in the midst of trials and difficulties. This courage does not come from our own strength but from knowing that God is with us. We can find courage in the assurance of His presence, His promises, and His faithfulness throughout history.

God’s strengthening: The verse goes on to say, “and he shall strengthen thine heart.” When we wait on the Lord and remain courageous, God promises to strengthen our hearts. He provides us with the spiritual and emotional strength we need to persevere through challenges. This strengthening comes through our relationship with Him, through His Word, prayer, and the empowering work of the Holy Spirit within us.

The emphasis on waiting: The verse concludes by repeating the exhortation to wait on the Lord: “wait, I say, on the LORD.” David emphasizes the importance of waiting, reminding us that God’s timing is perfect and His ways are higher than ours. Waiting on the Lord requires patience, trust, and an active reliance on Him. It is a reminder that our strength and deliverance come from God alone.

Practical application:

  • – Trust in God’s timing: In times of waiting and uncertainty, remember that God is in control. Trust that He has a purpose and a plan, even when it may be difficult to understand.
  • – Take courage: When facing challenges, difficulties, or opposition, be of good courage, knowing that God is with you. Find strength and encouragement in His presence.
  • – Seek God’s strength: Instead of relying solely on your own strength, seek God’s strength through prayer, reading His Word, and cultivating a deep relationship with Him.
  • – Patiently wait on the Lord: Develop an attitude of patient waiting, surrendering your own desires and plans to God’s will. Trust that He will act in His perfect timing.
