Listen to this article

“My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.”

Psalm 45:1 (KJV) says:“My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.”

Context:Psalm 45 is attributed to the Sons of Korah and is classified as a Messianic psalm. It is often regarded as a wedding song or a song of praise for a royal wedding. The psalm speaks of the beauty, majesty, and righteousness of the king and portrays him as a type or foreshadowing of the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

“My heart is inditing a good matter”:The phrase “My heart is inditing” means that the psalmist’s heart is overflowing or bubbling up with a good theme or a noble message. It signifies the psalmist’s deep and intense emotions, driven by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. The psalmist is moved to praise and extol the king, highlighting the significance of his words to follow.

“I speak of the things which I have made touching the king”:Here, the psalmist affirms that he will speak of the things he has skillfully composed concerning the king. The psalmist acknowledges that his words are crafted with great care, inspired by God, and centered on the attributes and accomplishments of the king.

“My tongue is the pen of a ready writer”:The psalmist compares his tongue to the pen of a skilled writer, ready to eloquently express and record the praises and blessings related to the king. This metaphor emphasizes the psalmist’s desire and ability to artfully convey his thoughts and feelings about the king.

Application and Lessons:Psalm 45:1 reminds us of the power of words and the importance of expressing our heartfelt praise and admiration for God, as well as for earthly kings and leaders. It encourages us to use our tongues wisely, like a skilled writer, to communicate messages that honor and glorify God and uplift those in authority.

Furthermore, as a Messianic psalm, Psalm 45:1 points to Jesus Christ, the ultimate King and Messiah. Just as the psalmist’s heart overflowed with a good matter concerning the earthly king, our hearts should overflow with praise and adoration for Jesus Christ, who is the King of kings and Lord of lords.
