Psalms 64:6

Listen to this article

“They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep.”

Context:The book of Psalms is a collection of poetic expressions of praise, worship, and lament. Psalm 64 is attributed to David and is classified as a lament or a prayer for deliverance from enemies.

Iniquities and Diligent Search:The verse begins by describing the actions of David’s enemies. They are actively searching for iniquities or wicked deeds committed by David or others who are loyal to him. The phrase “they accomplish a diligent search” indicates their persistent efforts to uncover any wrongdoing.

Inward Thought and Deep Heart:The verse then delves into the inner workings of David’s enemies. It suggests that not only do they search for external wrongdoings, but they also probe the “inward thought” and the “heart” of individuals. This implies that they are not only interested in finding evidence of sin but also in understanding the motives and intentions behind the actions of those they target.

Deep Heart:The phrase “the heart is deep” signifies that the thoughts and intentions of David’s enemies are profound, cunning, and not easily discernible. It implies that they are skilled at concealing their true intentions and operating with a hidden agenda.

Overall, Psalm 64:6 paints a picture of David’s enemies who are actively and diligently searching for any wrongdoing or evidence of sin. They are not satisfied with merely external actions but desire to understand the inner thoughts and motives of individuals. The verse highlights the depth and complexity of their hearts and underscores the need for God’s deliverance and protection from such adversaries.
