Psalms 119:160

Posted on 18 May at 15:12

“Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth forever.”

1. Context: Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Book of Psalms and is known for its emphasis on the importance and value of God’s Word. The psalmist expresses his love for God’s law, his desire to obey it, and the blessings that come from following God’s commands.

2. The Truth of God’s Word: The psalmist affirms that God’s Word is true from the beginning. It highlights the reliability and trustworthiness of God’s Word. The truths revealed in the Scriptures are not subject to change or alteration. They remain constant and reliable throughout all generations.

3. Righteous Judgments: The psalmist also acknowledges that every one of God’s righteous judgments endures forever. God’s judgments refer to His decisions, decrees, and laws. They are based on righteousness and justice. The psalmist recognizes that God’s judgments are enduring, meaning they are unchanging and permanent. They are not temporary or situational but hold eternal significance.

4. Application: This verse teaches us several important lessons:

  • a. Trustworthiness of God’s Word: As believers, we can have confidence that God’s Word is true and reliable. It serves as our guide and source of wisdom in all areas of life. We can trust in its teachings and promises.
  • b. Permanence of God’s Judgments: God’s judgments are not subject to human opinion or cultural shifts. They are timeless and enduring. We should seek to align our lives with His righteous standards and live in obedience to His commands.
  • c. Faithfulness to God’s Word: The psalmist’s affirmation of the enduring nature of God’s Word encourages us to remain steadfast in our commitment to study, meditate on, and obey His Word. It reminds us that God’s truth is unchanging, and we can rely on it at all times.
  • d. Worship and Praise: Psalm 119 as a whole is a celebration and expression of devotion to God’s Word. This verse reminds us of the greatness and worthiness of God, prompting us to worship and praise Him for His faithfulness and unchanging nature.
